    The Cloud as Rainmaker

    In case you missed the news the other day, the analysts at Gartner have just named TidalScale a Cool Vendor in its 2017 Cloud Computing Report[i].  This latest report from one of the world’s most respected research outfits affirms once more that the time is right for TidalScale’s Software-Defined Servers, which bring flexibility to modern data centers by enabling organizations to right-size servers on the fly.  (I say “affirms once more” because TidalScale was named an IDC Innovator just a few weeks ago.) 

    We think Gartner is spot on with its assessment that “the era of cloud optimization – not just cloud implementation – is here.” In other words, data center administrators who have already deployed some type of private or public cloud are ready for the next step.     Indeed, Gartner reports that by 2020, more than a third (35 percent) of large enterprises “will implement dynamic optimization technology for private cloud and virtualized infrastructure — up from less than 5% in 2016.”

    With workloads growing less predictable and data sets quickly swelling beyond the capacity of even the largest server in a data center, decision-makers at all levels are struggling to ensure their infrastructures are up to handling, say, the end of the quarter, Cyber Monday, or the next unexpected spike in traffic. Workloads will only grow more unpredictable. Data centers and cloud implementations must become more flexible, because the cloud you have today may not be the cloud you’ll need six months from now. So even for freshly implemented clouds, flexibility is everything.

    Servers: The missing piece of the software-defined puzzle

    Some flexibility exists already.
